Creating a Powerful Public Presence: A Workshop for Researchers Who Need Training in Speaking

September 25, 2015

9:30 am - 3:30 pm

As professionals, we represent our institutions every time we speak – both internally and externally. We have a responsibility, therefore, to present ourselves as powerfully as we can.  Sometimes, our good ideas and messages get lost because we don’t speak well. We rush; we mumble; we aren’t vocally interesting.

This workshop focuses on strategies for using the voice and body effectively.  The goal is to create a dynamic, engaging delivery so that our audiences (large or small) will remember our messages.

Presenter:

Dale DeLetis is currently the resident speaking skills trainer for development professionals at MIT Sloan.  In addition, he has worked with staff in all areas of development at Dartmouth College, Simmons College, Boston College, Boston University, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, The Episcopal Relief and Development Agency, and a number of independent schools.

This work is a special aspect of his decades-long career in teaching public speaking and presentation skills.  He has trained professionals in business, education, and non-profits.  He has helped corporate CEOs and fourth graders, construction workers and college presidents. He regularly trains researchers in economics and bio-tech start-ups.  He is the only speech trainer in all the programs at the Harvard Business School.
